LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anne Barton, a film, television and stage actress who played Eddie Haskell's mother in the "Leave It to Beaver" TV series, died Monday after a long illness. She was 72.

A native of Evansville, Ind., Barton won her first stage role in "Junior Miss" at age 18. She appeared in dozens of films, plays and television dramas in the 1950s to the 1970s.

She appeared on "Leave It to Beaver," 1957-63; had film roles in "The Left-Handed Gun," "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" and "The Way West" and appeared in episodes of television's "The Twilight Zone," "Gunsmoke," "Have Gun, Will Travel," "Green Acres," "Cannon," "Laramie" and in the pilot and several episodes of "Perry Mason."
