Our beloved Mary B. Fitzgerald passed away December 9, 2000.
Born September 11, 1909 in Morehouse, MO to William E. and Dessie Wright Eakins Barr. Married in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 12, 1937 to John W. Fitzgerald who preceded her in death Oct. 23, 1998.
Earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University, and com-pleted a mission to Santa Barbara, CA, after which she continued her studies at BYU and U of U. She began her career as an educator in Coalville, UT while her husband served in World War II. She spent most of her teaching years at Jordan High School, retiring as a counselor from there.
Mary had an infectious "joie de vivre". She had a love for learning and teaching, meeting new people and visiting with friends. She was a tireless volunteer, particularly following her retirement when she served as president of Delta Kappa Gamma, spent time as an intake counselor at the juvenile court, taught English at the Guadalupe Center, and spent many hours serving at the Utah State Historical Society.
She was a member of AAUW and was proud to find her name listed in Who's Who of American Women. She was honored throughout her life with many additional and varied awards.
Those who will miss her most are her daughter, Marilynne Lima and her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Steve Barton; her grandchildren, Lorrie, Shawn, Mark, Kyle, Nick and Stephanie; and great-grandchil-dren, Michael, Tony, Kaylen, Blake, Chase and Cameron.
Services honoring her life will be held at Saturday, December 16, 2000 at 12 noon in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Dr. Friends may call on Friday, December 15 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday 10:45-11:45 a.m., prior to services.
