"The People's Court" Judge Jerry Sheindlin is passing the gavel to former Miami judge Marilyn Milian early next year.

Sheindlin, a 66-year-old retired New York State Supreme Court judge, chose to retire from the bench, the show's producers said.

"These past two seasons have been a wonderful fantasy and I truly enjoyed the adventure," Sheindlin said. "Part of the adventure was trying to nip at the heels of my wife. Unfortunately, I could never catch up with her."

Sheindlin is married to the presiding jurist of "Judge Judy," which leads reality courtroom shows in viewership by a wide margin.
