HILL OUT FOR SEASON: Grant Hill will undergo season-ending surgery on his ankle, a devastating blow to the Magic and their hopes the five-time All-Star would lead them to an NBA title.

Hill, acquired from Detroit in the offseason, is expected to be sidelined for 6-to-8 months, general manager John Gabriel said.

He appeared in only four games for the Magic, who are 12-16 and third in the Atlantic Division. He is averaging 13.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.25 steals in 33.3 minutes a game.

Hill was acquired by Orlando on Aug. 3 in a sign-and-trade deal with the Pistons for Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace.

REINSDORF SUED BY SISTER: The ailing sister of Chicago sports franchise owner Jerry Reinsdorf filed a $5 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against her brother, claiming he cut her off financially.

The Superior Court suit filed by Marvin Mitchelson said the managing partner of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox gave Judith Reinsdorf $10,000 a month for her care for 16 years.

Those payments stopped in 1998 because Judith Reinsdorf refused her brother's demand that she stop seeing their elderly mother, the suit said. Their mother, Marion Reinsdorf died in 1998.
