NEW YORK (Reuters) — Jack Hemingway, son of the late author Ernest Hemingway and an Idaho outdoorsman, died late Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said Saturday. He was 76.
According to media reports, members of his family decided to remove him from life-support systems following complications from heart surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center.
He was a decorated World War II veteran who spent six months in a German prisoner of war camp. He later served as a member of the Idaho fish and game commission in the 1970s.
Hemingway was the father of actress Mariel Hemingway and was visiting New York when he took ill. He also had an older daughter, Muffet. Another daughter, actress-model Margaux, died in 1996 of a drug overdose.
