Jimmy Vreeken passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 3, 2000, at age 91, of pneumonia.
Jimmy was born May 11, 1909 in Amsterdam, Nether-lands. His family immigrated to the United States that same year. He was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, which is where he lived most of his life. He married Ruth Dial of Willard, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1929.
He was employed with Standard Optical as Shop Foreman from 1926 to 1986, and then retired at age 78. He enjoyed his family, traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, and last bowled less than two weeks before his death.
He served in various leadership callings in the Young Men's and High Priest Group, and has held many other church assignments. He was an active member of the LDS Church his entire life.
He is survived by his "sweetheart", Ruth; his son, James D. (and wife Loraine) Vreeken; grandchildren: Jacque (Terry) Cook, Joseph "J.D." Vreeken, Vicki (Derek) Johnson, Shelli (Garrick) Greenhalgh, Cindy (Ruston) Hadley, Cheri Vreeken; and three great grandchildren: Hayden Cook, Kelli Cook, and Breilly Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters, and an infant daughter.
He was loved by all who knew him and was known best for his unconditional generosity and love.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, 12 noon, at the Millstream Chapel, 1100 E. 3400 So., Salt Lake City.
Friends are welcome to call Friday Dec. 8, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, and at the ward Saturday,
one hour prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
