AWARDS: 1996 American Football Quarterly Division I Offensive Coordinator of the Year; 1993 Athlon National Assistant Coach of the Year.

HIGHLIGHTS: Chow coached 1990 Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer as well as Davey O'Brien Trophy winners Detmer, Jim McMahon, Steve Young. In 1984, he helped guide BYU to a 13-0 season and the national championship. He was also integral in two of the Cougars' biggest victories ever, a 28-21 upset of No. 1 Miami in 1990 and a 1997 Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State (the Cougars finished No. 5 in final polls). The Cougar offense was never shut out during his years as offensive coordinator and only three times did BYU fail to score a touchdown during that span. Chow coached 13 future NFL players.

LOWLIGHTS: Chow drew criticism from fans for everything from his play-calling to the way he handled quarterback controversies. In 1997, Paul Shoemaker was named the starter and was pulled at halftime of the first game in favor of Kevin Feterik. Shoemaker quit the team after his junior year. In the last two seasons, quarterback Drew Miller and receiver Michael Westbrook both left BYU partially because they did not see eye-to-eye with Chow. In 1999, fan criticism intensified following a 21-3 defeat to Marshall in the Motor City Bowl.

DID YOU KNOW? Chow has called all the offensive plays at BYU since 1982.
