Alantha Joan Fisher Davis Matson, born April 2, 1918, the second child and only daughter of Maymie Almira Matthews and Howard Elmer Fisher, passed from this life surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2000.
She was born at the home of her maternal grandparents in Port Angeles, Washington and was named after Joan of Arc and her grandmother, both strong, devout and selfless women, well emulated by her namesake.Joan's maternal and paternal grandparents were among the earliest settlers of Port Angeles, Washington, leading to her lifelong interest in local histories and genealogy. She extensively documented events and relationships of Clallam County, Washington.
Joan was raised by her grandmother after the early death of her mother. She graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1936. In 1942, she married Elmer H. Davis. From this union of 20 years came four sons: Elmer H., Rudy P., Jon D., and Jared L. Davis.
When her youngest child entered the first grade, Joan returned to school to pursue a nursing degree. She spent many rewarding years professionally and compassionately caring for patients. Joan worked for BYU Health services for 17 years.
In 1973, she married Arne A. Matson and enjoyed many happy years sharing her life with him. She also was pleased to have gained a daughter, Rae Nae S. Hutchinson, through this marriage.
Joan is survived by her eternal companion, sons, daughter, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Edgemont 3rd Ward Chapel, 350 East 2950 North, Provo, Utah. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the ward chapel. Interment to follow March 4th at the Ocean View Cemetery, Port Angeles, Washington. Local arrangements made by Berg Mortuary, Provo.
