BYU

Bruce M. Snow has been named executive director of development for Brigham Young University and the BYU-Hawaii campus.He replaces former assistant vice president for advancement M. McClain Bybee, now the director of the LDS Foundation.

A native of St. Anthony, Idaho, Snow earned a bachelor's degree from BYU in physical education with an English minor. He was a teaching assistant at BYU before taking positions at two California schools.

He completed a law degree from Western State University College of Law and was the first law clerk to U.S. District Judge Marion J. Callister in Boise.

Snow joined the LDS Foundation staff in 1978, serving as a regional director in western Idaho, eastern Oregon and Washington.

Orem/Provo

Phone Directories Company Inc. is offering Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce members a unique way to identify their business as a member of the Chamber in their Yellow Page advertising. Phone Directories and the Chamber of Commerce reached an agreement that will allow members to display the Chamber logo in their advertisements in the Yellow Pages.

The announcement is in anticipation of a program the chamber is sponsoring called "Do Business with Chamber Members."

Sales representatives from the directory will begin covering the Provo/Orem area, telling Chamber members how they can have the logo included in their ads. For more information call 800-228-0801.

Provo

Intermountain Health Care's Urban South Region Vice President Chris Coons and eight operating- and emergency-room technicians will plunge into the frigid waters of Utah Lake at 11 a.m. Saturday as part of a "Dunk For Smiles" fund-raiser.

The event has raised more than $12,000 the past three years for a local medical group that provides surgery for children in Guatemala and Mexico. Proceeds will be used to purchase medical supplies and humanitarian aid. The traveling group headed by Dr. Blaine Hirsche includes anesthesiologists, surgical nurses and humanitarian volunteers. They travel twice a year to fix cleft pallets, burn scars, club feet and other abnormalities.

The jump will take place at the Utah Lake State Park main marina. Donations can be made to the Hirsche Smiles Foundation may call Tom Eastmond at 375-4646.

SCERA

Two-time Grammy winner and Cherokee Indian Rita Coolidge will perform mainstream and American Indian songs at a 7:30 p.m. concert Monday at Mountain View High School in Orem.

The concert is part of SCERA's Encore Season. Tickets are $15 and available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at SCERA, 745 S. State, or by calling 225-2569, or 225-ARTS.

"Rita Coolidge is certainly among the finest vocalists we have secured," said Norm Nielsen, SCERA president. "At the height of her fame, her voice was hailed as the sexiest voice in the world, and whether you agree with that assessment or not, I look at this concert as a real highlights in our current season."

The Tennessee native had been ready to begin a career as an art teacher after earning a degree from Florida State University but decided to give herself one year to see if a music career was possible. Soon, Coolidge found herself on pop music's leading edge.

Coolidge also focuses on her own Cherokee heritage by becoming involved in projects designed to benefit or call attention to American Indian music, culture and issues.
