William Earl Read, Jr., (Earl) passed away peacefully on February 7, 2000.
Earl was born in Ogden, Utah, on June 24, 1917, to William Earl Read and Edith Cornelia (Cora) Volker. He was serving an LDS mission in Belgium when World War II started, then completed his mission in Minnesota and Canada. While in the U.S. Navy, his ship was sunk off Guadalcanal, after which he was reassigned to New Zealand. Earl graduated from Brigham Young University, and married Eunice Frost on June 2, 1948, in the Idaho Falls Temple. He had a great love for music; he was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Swanee Singers, the Jay Welch Chorale, and the Utah Oratorio Society, and also loved to sing for friends and loved ones.He is survived by his wife, Eunice; and son, William Lewis Read, of Cottonwood Heights; son, David Earl Read (Cherie), of Taylorsville, Utah; daughters, Ronda Cunningham (Walt), of Taylorsville; Rosanne Schulthies (Don), of Vancouver, Washington; and Ramona Morrill (Wayne), of West Jordan, Utah; 23 grandchildren, two of whom are currently serving missions; and three great-grandchildren. Earl is also survived by two sisters, Kathryn Gladden (Ralph), of Orem, Utah; and Carolyn Green (Earl), of Seattle, Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rollo; two sisters, Helen Burt, Avon Christopherson.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Butler 10th Ward (Greenfield Chapel) 6634 So. Greenfield Way. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 So. 900 East, Murray, UT and one hour prior to the service on Wed. at the Church. Interment following services at Lake Hills Memorial Estates.
