Edith Grace Baxter Colton Hamaker, 81, returned to her Heavenly Father and the open arms of her parents on Sat., March 11, 2000.
Grace was born on August 24, 1918, in Salt Lake City. She was the oldest child of William Frederick and Margrette Edith Halford Baxter. She was educated in Salt Lake and American Fork and graduated from American Fork High School, two years early, in 1934.She was her grandpa's girl and spent many hours at the home of her grandparents after she lost her mother at the age of 12. She married Edward Hollace Colton on November 6, 1936; they were later divorced. She married Christy Wayne Hamaker on October 17, 1952. They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 21, 1967.
She taught primary for over 20 years, and will be fondly remembered by many people who passed through her class over the years. She served for many years as ward librarian as well as an inservice leader and a visiting teacher. She loved doing temple work and spent many hours in the temple. In 1990, she had the opportunity to go to the Provo Temple with her husband and seal her parents together.
She loved to travel and was able to visit almost all of the 50 states, including Hawaii. She enjoyed cooking for her family, yard sales and game shows. She served as President of the Macabees in Salt Lake for many years before moving back to American Fork.
She is survived by her eternal partner, American Fork; two daughters and one son, Joyce L. Street, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Max (Elaine) Robinson, Pennisicola, FL; and Roger L. Colton, Pleasant Grove; one sister, Mrs. Clyde (Lois) Elmer, Nephi; 16 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Isakson; two grandchildren, and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. in the American Fork 25th Ward Chapel, 455 E. 300 N. Friends may call at Anderson and Sons Mortuary, 49 E. 100 N., American Fork, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
