What was once known as Harmony is today called Oakland. It is in Susquehanna County, Pa., near the New York border.

A small roadside park in Oakland contains a monument commemorating the Joseph Smith home and some of the early events of the Church. In a small cemetery are three graves. One is that of an infant son of Joseph and Emma Smith and the other two are those of Emma's parents.To reach Oakland (Harmony) from Binghamton, N.Y., proceed south on I-81 for 15 miles to Highway 171, then go east for eight miles.
