MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) -- Ben & Jerry's Homemade, the ice cream maker founded by two former hippies and known for its blend of quirky flavors and social activism, is being sold to the world's largest ice cream maker, multinational giant Unilever PLC.

The $326 million deal announced Wednesday would bring the maker of ice cream flavors like Chunky Monkey and Cherry Garcia under the same corporate umbrella as Good Humor and Breyers ice cream.On the same day, Unilever was also making a purchase at the opposite end of the weight scale -- it is buying Slim-Fast Foods Co. for $2.3 billion.BR.
