Sherman (Buzz) Gunn Lloyd, 61, passed away peacefully at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, Oregon on April 6, 2000 of cancer.
He was born in Washington, D.C. on September 15, 1938 to Sherman Parkinson and Edith Ann Gunn Lloyd. He married Patricia McIntyre in 1961. They were later divorced. He graduated from East High School and received a B.S. degree in political science and history from Utah State University. He taught at Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City, was assistant principal of Toledo High school in Toledo, Oregon, and spent the last 10 years of his life as a much loved teacher at Waldport High School in Waldport, Oregon. He was chosen as outstanding teacher of the year, was a member of Waldport Kiwanis Club and advisor to the Key Club. He was active in community affairs.He enjoyed living near the ocean, deep sea fishing, golfing, teaching and gardening. He planted beautiful gardens in his own yard as well as Waldport High. His joy was involvement with his students and teaching them to think and learn and become good citizens and follow their dreams. He will be remembered also for his keen sense of
humor.
His father, Sherman P. Lloyd, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing, his companion, Fran Whited; daughter, Denise Louise Lloyd of Hamilton, Montana; son, Eric Gunn Lloyd of Seattle, Washington; grandson, Luke Lloyd of Seattle, Washington; his mother, Edith Ann Gunn Lloyd of Salt Lake City; sisters, Kathryn (Frank) Richards of Park City; Diane (Brent) McMaster and Elizabeth Ann Smith of Salt Lake City; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a host of friends and many beloved students he taught though the years.
Memorial services were held in Waldport, Oregon on Monday, April 10, 2000.
