John passed away during the evening of April 20, 2000.

He was born in Wellington, New Zealand on August 27, 1967, the first child of Iain B. and Heidi V. McKay. He emigrated to Utah with his parents and siblings. From birth he was faced with ongoing, unrelenting health challenges which he bore quietly, gently and with hope, faith and determination. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he read constantly from the standard works and Church History. They, and his love and faith in the Savior together with his family, friends and Church leaders helped him through many dark days. He befriended those with challenges and was always seeking ways to lift, encourage and help others, including his family. He is survived by his parents, Heidi and Iain; and brothers and sisters, Heidi Elise (Erik T.) Brinkman, David F. (Layna), Iain M., Heather E., Wendy L.; and nephews, Michael T. Brinkman, Alec T. Brinkman, Jamison David McKay.
