Science-fiction writer and space-age visionary Arthur C. Clarke was knighted Friday at the home of the British ambassador to Sri Lanka more than two years after he was conferred with the honor. The investiture was delayed at Clark's request after he was accused of being a child molester by a London tabloid. The allegation was never proved.

"I feel like a lobster," joked Clarke, flapping his arms and legs while wearing an ash-colored suit on a hot, sultry morning in Colombo.

The British-born writer has lived in Sri Lanka for four decades and uses a wheelchair because a post-polio problem has left him partially paralyzed.
