SANTA BARBARA, CA-- Leonard Neilsen Jorgensen passed away May 4, 2000 at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital following a long illness.
He was born October 22, 1915 in Hyrum, UT to John W. and Nanny Neilsen Jorgensen. He married Jean Stewart on June 27, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away on July 1, 1995. Leonard and Jean had one daughter, Julie, who was the light of his life. She spent many long hours at his side, lovingly caring for him during his lengthy illness. His dignity, strength, courage and kindness touched everyone he knew. He was completely devoted to his wife and daughter who were his greatest joy in life and he lovingly cared for his wife, Jean, through her lengthy illness before she passed away.Leonard graduated from Utah State University as a Civil Engineer. His work with the U.S. Geological Survey took him to Texas, Montana, Vernal, Salt Lake City, and California, where he retired and eventually moved to St. George. He returned to California after the death of his wife. Leonard was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force Support Group in India during World War II.
Leonard is survived by his daughter: Julie (Tom) Larson; three brothers: Jack Jorgensen; Howard (Beverly) Jorgensen; Reed (Gail) Jorgensen; two sisters: Gladys (Blaine) Parker; Gloria (Reed) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr, Salt Lake City. Friends may call at a family visitation on Tuesday from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
