Aaron Xavier Stimpson, 2, rests on the shoulder of his father, Aaron Stimpson, at the Juneteenth Emancipation Heritage Celebration at Jordan Park Saturday. A Stop the Violence/Start the Love youth rally, which was supposed to be part of the Salt Lake Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's celebration, was canceled because so few youth showed up Friday, a fact the Salt Lake Branch's vice-president Charlotte Starks attributed to the cool, rainy weather. Still, Starks said the day's proceedings were a success because the youths who showed up, as well as a number of adults, were able to chat about the issues of violence they face. A dance at Da Phat Squirrel nightclub was among Saturday's activities. Juneteenth honors the emancipation of slaves and runs from June 13-19.
