TIERRA AMARILLA, N.M. (AP) — More than 50 inmates overpowered guards and held control of part a county jail for about 12 hours before surrendering to authorities Sunday morning.
No injuries were reported at Rio Arriba County jail, and there were no escapes, but the inmates did so much damage, the entire jail had to be cleared out, state police Sgt. Greg Toya said.
All of the inmates in the county jail, which houses 86, were transferred to the Santa Fe County jail, he said.
