BOUNTIFUL-- On Saturday, July 8, 2000 Clair DeVerl Buttars was honorably released from his earthly mission.
He was born August 11, 1917 in Clarkston, Utah. He married his life long companion Melba Hancey Buttars, of Newton, Utah, July 22, 1940. Sealed in the Salt Lake Temple May 2, 1955.
Clair is survived by his wife of 60 years and nine of his ten children, Clinton Buttars (Marsha), Gail Anderson (Joel), Crystal Clayton, Brent Buttars (Bobette), Robert Buttars (Melissa), Lance Buttars (Julie), Lorna Reid (Bill), Lisa Lish (Craig), Holly Anderson (Scott); brother, Harold Buttars; sisters, Lula Lott and Leone Buttars; 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Buttars; his father, William David Buttars; mother, Edna Louise Whitney; brothers, Loren, Vaughan, Orland Sam; sister, Thora Price; grandson, Wilbert Reese Andersen; great-grandson, James Adam Anderson.
Clair was a delightful storyteller and singer, who entertained two generations making memories that will last forever. His wit and wisdom enlightened family, friends, church and business associates.
He belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings over the years. He especially enjoyed his service as temple ordinance worker. Clair retired from Garrett Freight Lines in 1982 after 34 years. He was vice president of Claims and Loss Prevention. Clair served as chairman of Western Freight Claims Council. National Regional Chairman, a polygraph examiner, member of the American Polygraph Association, Regional Chairman of the ATA Security Council, Chairman of NFCC Legislative Law Committee, NFC Arbitration Committee, member of TAB Arbitration Committee, and sought after speaker. He was Deputy Mayor of Washington Terrace. He helped organize the fire department, ambulance service, police department, and was a deputy sheriff in Ogden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at the Rolling Hills LDS Chapel, 1825 North 200 East, Centerville. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Wednesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Clarkston City Cemetery, Clarkston, Utah.
