GUNNISON, UTAH-- Richard Charles Kjar, 63, of Gunnison, Utah, died July 12, 2000, in an ATV accident.

He was born October 31, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ronald and Eleanor Peterson Kjar.

He married Marcia Peterson May 31, 1958, in the Manti LDS Temple. He was a graduate of Snow College and Utah State University where he received his Master's Degree. Richard taught Voca-tional Agriculture at Gunnison Valley High School for 28 years. His F.F.A. students received many state and national honors. Richard also worked at Snow College for 12 years. He loved fishing, camping, golfing, and was an avid reader. He so enjoyed doing many activities with his children and grandchildren.

Richard served as bishop, in two bishoprics and many other priesthood callings. He had a strong unwavering testimony and loved the church throughout his life. He served as a city councilman, Lions president and Jaycee member.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Gunnison; children, Alan (Paula) Kjar, Las Vegas, NV; Roger (Lori) Kjar, Kamas; Diane (Jordan) Nielson; Douglas (Amy) Kjar, both of Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren; mother, Eleanor Madsen; two brothers, Bruce and Michael Kjar; sister, Janet Hughes; sister-in-law, Marianne Kjar. He is preceded in death by father, Ronald; daughter, Debra Ann; and brother, David.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Gunnison Stake Center, where friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Gunnison Cemetery. Funeral directors, Magleby-Jensen Mortuary, Salina and Gunnison.
