Oscar Wendle Nielsen died Monday, July 31st in Provo, Utah.
Born in Fairview, UT to Niels Peter Nielsen and Phylinda Terry Nielsen Oct. 20, 1909. Attended Snow College and BYU. Had a very successful career in financial management, living in Philadelphia, PA for 28 years. Involved extensively in church responsibilities dur-ing the early growth of the Church there.
Moved to Provo, Utah in 1958 and worked in a Financial Department at BYU.
In Utah was active in community and church--he was involved in the Provo Freedom Festival, served as a counselor in a Bishopric and as a Bishop, on a High Council and many other church assignments. Served at the MTC for 11 years. Was called as a counselor to Harold Glen Clark, in the first Provo Temple Presidency--serving there for five years, in a work he truly loved. Served as a sealer there and recognized by many by his frequent attendance.
He is survived by his wife Mary Brooks Nielsen and the following family members: Hope (Osmond Hyde of Portland, Oregon), J. Barry Nielsen of Salt Lake City, Christine (Paul Tippetts of Highland, Utah); 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, Ross Nielsen of Provo, and Leon Nielsen of Fairview. Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Otis, Charles, Leland, and Lavar; and by two wives, Allie Mac Carlston, Celeste Cantono.
Funeral will be held Thursday, August 3rd in the Cascade Fourth Ward, 1051 East 200 North, Orem, Utah at 1 p.m. Viewing will be held there one hour prior to the service, and in the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 So. State, Orem, Wednesday, August 2nd from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial in the Provo City Cemetery.
