Shirley Jean Stam Mitchell returned to our Heavenly Father peacefully in her sleep on August 19, 2000, in El Cajon, San Diego, California, after a courageous battle with heart disease.

Born on January 6, 1929 to Peter William and Myra M. Williams Stam. Shirley had a large and loving family of five brothers and five sisters. She graduated from West High School June 1947. She married Keith Romney Mitchell on Oct. 30, 1947, in Elko, Nevada. They divorced in Sept. 1970. Shirley was a devoted mother who lived her life for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the MIA, Primary and Sunday School. She was a strong willed person and will be remembered for her strength in a diversity. She was compassionate, kind-hearted, and a loving person. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved to be out working in her gardens and spending time with her family.

Survived by her children, Richard (Linda), Riverton, WY; Barbara (Royce) Allred, Sandy, UT; and Sandra (Michael) Rogers, Spring Valley, CA; grandchildren, Shanta (Leon) Schmidt; Codi (Joshua) Beckman; Thane (Michelle) Allred; Kent (Kaylene) Allred, Jacquelyn (Eugene) Mortensen, and Amanda Rogers; great-grandchildren, Terry Lynn Mortensen and Ariana Brown and two more on the way. Brother, Richard (Muriel) Stam and Sisters, Barbara Bretzing and Ardeith Johansen. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, William, Joseph, Myron, R. Marvin, Sisters, H. Rebecca, Ruth and Dorothy.

Graveside services will be Sat., August 26, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Rd, West Jordan, Utah. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the mortuary on Saturday. Interment Redwood Memorial Estates.
