Floyd Barg Weed died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, following a battle with prostate cancer.
Born June 22, 1919, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Floyd was the firstborn of Floyd Leonard and Hedwig Barg Weed.
Floyd was a valiant servant of God and country. He served from 1940-1942 as a missionary in the Central States mis-sion and returned home to serve in World War II. Following his service, Floyd met his sweetheart, Deaun Moulton, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 28, 1946. Floyd attended West High School, LDS Business College, and graduated from Brigham Young University. Following his education he served his country again in the Korean Conflict. Upon his return he began his 32-year career with the J.C. Penney Company.
A faithful servant in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Floyd had the opportunity to serve in many callings, most recently as Patriarch of the Cottonwood Heights Stake where he found great joy in blessing the choice youth of his stake. Floyd and Deaun presided over the Thailand Bangkok Mission from 1985-1988 and were full time missionaries on Temple Square from 1991-1993.
He will be missed by his six children: Marilyn Abney (K.C.) of Orem, Utah; Ranonne Cottrell (Brent) of Clifton, Virginia; Randall F. Weed (Brenda) of Henderson, Nevada; Janice McKinnon (Paul) of Austin, Texas; Stephen M. Weed (Heidi) of Boise, Idaho; and Karen Barker (David) of Salt Lake City. Floyd is loved by his 30 grandchildren, and four of their spouses, and three great-grandchil-dren, whom he adored. Brothers and sisters: Mark Weed (Chloe), Sterling Weed (Nola), Grant Weed (Charlene) and Lowell Weed (Jeannie), Eleanor LeBaron (Allen). Preceded in death by his "Lovely Lady", Deaun, parents, his brother, Richard Weed (Marge) and his sister, Leah Carlson (Gordon).
As his children, we are grateful for a father who honored his priesthood, who loved our mother, and who taught us service, courage, strength, forgiveness, and compassion.
Funeral services for Floyd will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2000 at the Cottonwood Heights Stake Center, 6890 South 2225 East. Friends and family may call on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and at the stake center on Monday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Primary Children's Medical Center will be appreciated.
