SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — George Christopher, the former San Francisco mayor who persuaded the New York Giants to move to the West Coast, died Thursday of pneumonia. He was 92.

Christopher was the city's 34th mayor and served in office from 1956 through 1964. He was the last Republican mayor of San Francisco and retired from politics after finishing behind Ronald Reagan in the 1966 California governor's race.
