OGDEN-- Henry Bartley Heiner, 93, died Saturday, September 2, 2000 at a local care center of causes incident to age.
He was born March 30, 1907 in Morgan, a son of Henry and Margaret Melissa "Lissie" Robison Heiner.
On June 2, 1930, Bartley married LaVerne Farr in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. LaVerne died June 21, 1979. Bartley married Shirley Parker Marshall on April 1, 1980. She died May 13, 1992.
Bartley attended school in Morgan, Utah and in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He attended the University of Utah, the University of Wyoming and Brigham Young University. He achieved a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree at Brigham Young University.
Bartley successfully completed a mission for the LDS Church in Australia during 1926 through 1928. He was the District President in New Australia. Other positions which he held were: ward clerk, McKinnon, Wyoming; Second Counselor, Roosevelt Ward Bishopric, Roosevelt, Utah; First Counselor, Roosevelt Stake MIA, Roosevelt, Utah; Bishop of the 7th Ward, Ogden; and High Councilman, Lorin Farr Stake, Ogden.
He had many talents and more than one career. His first occupation was as a sheep and cattle rancher in McKinnon, Wyoming where he also taught grade school. Primarily, he was a teacher employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Department of Education. He was the principal of the Alterra and Roosevelt Seminaries in Duchesne County, Utah; instructor and principal at Weber High School Seminary in Ogden; principal of Ben Lomond High School Seminary; director of the LDS Institute at the University of Edmonton, Alberta Canada; director, Phoenix College LDS Institute, Phoenix, Arizona; and instructor at the Ogden Institute, Weber College, Ogden. Bartley was an excellent carpenter. During the summers he worked as a carpenter and construction contractor and continued this activity after retirement. At the age of 65, Bartley began to take classes in poetry, which had always interested him. Subsequently he published three poetry books which have been enjoyed by his family, the Bountiful Poetry Society, and many friends and radio listeners.
Bartley served as the Scout Commissioner in Roosevelt District during the years 1937 through 1941.
Surviving are one son and three daughters, Garth Farr Heiner, Riverdale; Cheril Heiner Inglet, Kaysville; Roselyn Lael (Donald Jay) Gibby, Riverdale; Barta Lee Heiner, Provo; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Barley is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Max Reynold (Jean) Heiner, Elwood Jules (Lucille) Heiner, and Allowee Heiner (Jack) Briggs.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pyna Heiner (Harold) Briggs and Bessie Heiner.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 7th at 2 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 1-1:45 p.m.
