The case of the missing Canyon Rim woman remains shrouded in mystery. Detectives served a search warrant on the woman's house last week, seizing a handful of things but gaining no solid leads.
Janis Marie Stavros, 42, was reported missing Jan. 4. Her disappearance is considered odd because she left her truck, new puppy and cell phone at the house and didn't tell anyone she was going away — behavior that is unlike her, said Michael Stavros, her ex-husband.
Michael Stavros said he stays in constant contact with Salt Lake County Sheriff's investigators and said so far, items taken from her home during a Jan. 9 search haven't turned up anything.
According to court documents made public Monday, 34 items were taken from the house where she lived, 2910 E. 3215 South. Nine things were taken from her pickup.
Most items taken by investigators were commonplace, such as a desk planner, a computer and bank statements. Some things were less commonplace, including a canister with marijuana residue, knives and guns.
Court documents state investigators found blood and blood-stained items, but they didn't specify where they were found. Cleaning products were found in the pickup.
Court documents include interviews with family members about the man with whom Janis Stavros lives — Robert Brent Butcher Jr. Butcher has been in Salt Lake County Jail since Jan. 9 for an alleged parole violation of possession of a firearm.
Court documents state Janis Stavros told her daughter, Meghan Laudie, the two had been having problems.
But Michael Stavros said if his ex-wife "was having any trouble with her boyfriend, it wasn't apparent."
Michael Stavros said he has had a good relationship with his ex-wife since their divorce in May.
