Our beloved dad, grandpa and friend,
Alfred Eugene Hemingway, age 92, died January 22, 2001 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born March 10, 1908 in Salt Lake City to Thomas and Vilate Betts Hemingway. He married Helen Rollins June 4, 1927. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Alfred was an active member of the LDS Church, having served in numerous callings. He was particularly grateful for having served as Elder Thomas S. Monson's counselor in the Salt Lake 6th and 7th Wards. Elder Monson gave Alfred a blessing just prior to his passing; this will always be sacred to his family, as they know how much their dad loved and appreciated Elder Monson.
Alfred was a devoted baseball fan having attended many games at the old Dirks Field now known as the Franklin Field. He was a Sheet Metal Worker and a Instructor at the Salt Lake Community College for many years.
Survivors: six sons and two daughters, Al E. Hemingway, Jr., Adele Damron, Wayne R. Hemingway, David E. Hemingway, H. Kay Wade, Lynn N. Hemingway, Michael L. Hemingway and Stephen C. Hemingway; 28 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Helen; daughter, Donna Ward; granddaughter, Wendy Hemingway; great granddaughter, Michelle Macey; also by eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services Friday, January 26th, 11 a.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy, where friends and family may call on Thursday 6-8 p.m. and also on Friday one hour prior to the services. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens. The family would like to extend special
appreciation to the staff at St. Josephs Villa, Special Care Unit for the their love and kindness in the care of their father for the last two years.
