Lyman Richard Feinauer, M.D., died January 24, 2001, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren, at the age of 83. He is remembered for his remarkable honesty, integrity and kindness, upbeat attitude, and bravery in the face of trials and adversity.

He was born April 4, 1917, in Montpelier, Idaho. He was the ninth of eleven children born to Christian Friedrich Feinauer and Sophie Schif.

He married his sweetheart, Lorraine Barrett, June 6, 1941. He graduated in chemical engineering from the University of Utah in 1942, and worked in the war effort until 1945, when he returned to Salt Lake to attend medical school. He graduated in August of 1948. He attended Stanford University as Chief Resident of Pediatrics, returning to Salt Lake City in 1951 to start the Pediatric Department at the Salt Lake Clinic, where he practiced for 40 years.

During his years of practice, he served as president of the Medical Staff at both LDS and Primary Children's Hospitals, and served two terms as president of the Intermountain Pediatric Society. He received numerous awards and honors, including the Dedicated Service to Children Award from Primary Children's Medical Center in 1989. In addition, he taught medical students and house officers at the University of Utah as a clinical professor of Pediatrics.

He was loved by many generations of his patients. He loved the outdoors especially Yellowstone and his cabin at Hebgen Lake, where he could always be found fishing. Many hours were also spent at Willow Creek Country Club, where he was charter member, and was delighted to claim five holes-in-one.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorraine Barrett; children, Richard (Karen), Leslie (Craig), Marcia (Boyd), Judy (Dane), and Mark (Tammy); and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Pauline Schiffgen and Ruth Bennion.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 29, 2001 at 12 noon at the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 South Wasatch Dr. Friends and family may call Sunday evening January 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South and on Monday one hour prior to services at the stake center. Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn.
