Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother (GG), Aunt and Friend passed away Mon-day, January 22, 2001 in the LDS Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 10, 1916 to William Francis and Mae Belle Gundry Tate. She married her loving companion of 64 years Thurman S. (Toby) Shields on January 20, 1937. Sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Her loving, fun spirit will be remembered by all - She was always entertaining whether by telling a joke and laughing the hardest at her own, singing a song, playing cards with her kids, her sister or grandkids, or cooking up a feast for anyone who dropped in. Her back door was always open.

She was known for her giving spirit, helping everyone in need, always putting her own needs in the background. Served as Past President of the Tooele and Utah State Ladies Firemens' Auxiliaries. She worked as a school lunchroom cook and owned and operated her own catering business. She was an avid golfer and belonged to the Tooele and Utah Ladies Golf Associations. Served as Primary teacher and chorister and held other various callings within the LDS Church.

She is survived by her faithful husband, Toby, three daughters and one son, Sharon (Melvin) McCoy, Kathy Whitehouse, Bruce (Jacque) Shields, and Mary Jane Chlubna, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Gail Tate, and many special nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother and father, her son Joseph, her very special sister and best friend, Ruth Lee Mallet, who died on December 9, 2000, sister Lucy Gillespie, and brothers Cecil, Emery, Wendell (Shag), Richard, and Elmer Tate.

A special thanks to Drs. Hal Cole and Bruce Newton for improving the quality of her life over the past five years, and to the doctors and staff at the LDS Hospital for their care during her final illness. We especially thank our father for his constant loving care.
