John Bernard Etcheverry, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000 at Ogden Regional Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 17, 1919 in Grand Junction, Colorado, a son of John and Anastasia Monteran Etcheverry. On Jan. 26, 1957, John married Effie Dorothy Evatz in Ogden. He had lived in Grand Junction, Colorado for five years, Los Angeles, California for one year and in the Ogden area for the remainder of his life. He attended the Sacred Heart Academy as a child. He was in the first graduating class at Ogden High School in 1938. John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a sheep rancher and a member of the Wool Growers Association. John was an advocate of the Special Olympics. He enjoyed playing the guitar and clarinet, and appreciated good music. He was an avid hunter and outfitter.

Surviving are his wife of Washington Terrace; one son and one daughter, John Joseph Etcheverry, Roy; Christine "Tina" Etcheverry, Ogden; two grandchildren, Trystan and Ashlyn Etcheverry, Ogden. John is also survived by one brother and one sister, Raymond (Julia) Etcheverry, Ogden; Marie Louise (Patrick J.) Yriarte, Whittier, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Pascaline H. Etcheverry, and one infant brother.

Funeral Mass will be held Thurs. at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 514 - 24th Street. Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Wed. from 6-8 p.m. where Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call on Thurs. from 9:45-10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
