Carl LaMar Betts, 76, of South Jordan, Utah passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 due to complications of cancer.
He was born November 12, 1924 in Salt Lake City to Effie May Robertson and John Leslie Betts.
He married Janice Oliphant March 23, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary this year. They are the parents of four children and seven grandchildren.
Carl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who honored his Priesthood. As a young man he served an LDS mission to the Hawaiian Islands and later he and Janice served a mission to the Fiji Islands. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Mountain Bell (U.S. West) after 36 years. He loved to travel and loved America.
He is survived by his wife and three children: Jeanie (Kim) Bowerbank, Laura (Mark) Oviatt, and Kenneth (Robyn) Betts. six grandchildren Anne and Elizabeth Bowerbank, Alex Bowerbank (Mexico City South Mission), Thomas and Jeffrey Oviatt and Kaleb Betts; a sister Helen Bronson of Arizona, and a brother, Bernell Bettts of Colorado. He was preceded in death by a daughter Leslie Ann, granddaughter Kristie, his parents, a brother Noal and sister Leora Howell.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13th, 11 a.m. at the River Ridge 7th ward 10200 South 1300 West (Immediately North of the Jordan River temple) where friends may call 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Friends and family may call Friday, October 12th at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 So. Highland Dr. from 6-8:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery on Highland Drive.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's Perpetuating Education Fund or a charity of your choice.
