Stan Walsh's "Italy — Tip to Toe" will be presented Monday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Kingsbury Hall. The travelog is the second in the Utah Travel Films' new season. Kingsbury Hall is on President's Circle on the University of Utah campus.
Walsh will be on hand to narrate his film.
Italy has always been a point of fascination for Walsh. This film covers favorite tourist attractions such as the leaning tower of Pisa and Michelangelo's David. But its strongest point is its attention to less-known aspects of the country.
Armchair travelers will visit Verona, the Technicolor Portovenere, the Victorian spa in Montecatini, the Chianti grape harvest, and the Etruscan museum in Tarquuinia.
"Along the way, we'll turn the pages of history," said Walsh. "We'll recall tales of migration, stories of popes and emperors and see how a peninsular people shaped the destiny of Western civilization.
Walsh, a native of New Jersey, served in the U.S. Air Force, then attended the University of Southern California where he was the projectionist for the Globetrotter basketball "team." His experience there was enough to lure into the film production business.
After graduation from USC, he and his family crossed the Atlantic and lived in Italy, where he practiced engineering and produced travelogs.
Tickets to the screening are available at the door or beforehand at the Kingsbury Hall ticket office. Call 581-7100 for more information.
A free shuttle service from Rice/Eccles Stadium parking lot will begin service at 6:30 p.m.
