ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Cecil J. Nesbitt, 89, who was one of the world's premier mathematicians in actuary science and taught mathematics at the University of Michigan for more than 40 years, died Monday.

Nesbitt also served on the International Council for Peace and Justice.

He published three books, one of which, "Actuarial Mathematics," released in 1986, is considered the core textbook for actuarial studies. His first book, "Rings with Minimum Conditions," was written in 1944 and is still in use.
