Former BYU graduate assistant Jim Hamblin was named the new football coach at East High.

Hamblin, 35, was a graduate assistant at BYU for the past two years before taking the job with the Leopards.

He also coached at Murtaugh High School in Idaho for seven years, where he led his team to a small-school state championship in 1994. They also won two conference championships.

"That's why we moved back down here to finish a master's just so I could get back into football," said Hamblin, who will receive his master's degree in education administration from BYU and will teach English at East.

"I don't like to air it out as much as BYU does," he said. "We have a very good balance in the running and passing game."

He replaces Keeko Georgelas, who was 44-38 with one state title in eight seasons with the Leopards.
