State records set during the 2001 state track and field championships

5A girls

3,200 meters: Laura Zeigle, Bingham, 10 minutes, 47.52 seconds. Breaks old record of 10:51.37, set in 1997 by American Fork's Lindsey Argyle. Note: Zeigle ran a 10:20.51 earlier this year at an invitational in Arcadia, Calif.; however, the Utah High School Activities Association only recognizes in-state performances for state marks.

400-meter relay: Alta, 47.46 seconds. Breaks old record of 48.63 set in 1994 by Skyline and tied last year by Alta. It also improves the pending 5A record of 48.45 set by Alta at the BYU Invitational last month.

400 meters: Heidi Magill, Mountain View, 54.58 seconds. Breaks old record of 55.35 set in 1998 by Kearns' Kelly Snodgress.

3A girls

400 meters: Kathleen Smyth, Judge Memorial, 56.08 seconds. Breaks old record of 56.32, set last year by Pine View's Aimee Christensen. Tooele's Jennifer Rockwell also surpassed the old mark in Saturday's final at 56.19.

300-meter hurdles: Kelly Schoney, Cedar City, 43.68 seconds. Breaks old record of 44.11, set last year by Richfield's Sara Oldfield.

2A boys

400 meters: Jed Casper, North Summit, 49.29 seconds. Ties record set in 1989 by Wasatch's Gary Hill.

Shot put: Todd Cole, Grantsville, 54 feet, 2.25 inches. Breaks old record of 53-1.75, set in 1982 by Lehi's Jim Fackrell.

Shot put: Mary Dinsdale, St. Joseph, 38 feet, 6 inches. Breaks old record of 38-1.75, set in 1978 by Green River's Stacy King.

1,600-meter relay: Panguitch, 4 minutes, 16.28 seconds. Breaks old record of 4:16.44, set in 1995 by Panguitch.
