Lois Catherine Schrick Goodell, 66, went to be with her Savior November 24, 2001, after a short and courageous battle with Acute Leukemia. We called her our "Valiant Soldier". She acquired other nicknames like: Our Little Princess, Frank'in's Queen, Precious Little Baby Mom, Baby Bird, Grandma Lo Lo, and finally, Lois Linger Longer.
Mom was born Dec 27, 1934 in San Francisco, CA, to August J. Schrick and Eileen Cadigan Schrick. Mom was raised an Irish Catholic until age twelve when her mother, our family Matriarch, was converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They later moved to Salt Lake City where she attended West High School. Mom joined the US Navy in 1951 where she met and married the late William Charles Storch Sr. and gave birth to their first born child of nine. They were later divorced.
Mom was sealed to her sweetheart, Frank I. Goodell, in the Provo LDS Temple May 24, 1980. (Her Frank'in) They met at the Provo US Post Office where they worked together. They loved to square dance!
Mom's greatest fulfillment was her faith. She was and is truly a servant to the Lord. She demonstrated this by quietly and consistently sacrificing and giving compassionate service to others. This was confirmed by the many cards and letters received during her illness, and the constant traffic of all that loved her just waiting to get in to see her. But she disliked fanfare and being fawned over for her good deeds. She had a strong testimony and was a shining example to all that she had contact with. These past two months when friends would ask how she was doing, she would reply, "I know that the Church of Jesus Christ is the only true church on earth, and that Jesus Christ is the son of the living God, and that Joseph Smith holds the keys to eternal salvation of the whole human family and that's all that matters!"
Mom had a keen mind and was talented in many fields. She was a great asset to the extraction program and the Family History Center where she worked as a consultant. Mom was well known for taking on the most difficult jobs and assignments. She always put her whole heart into accomplishing and completing the task. A valuable trait that she passed on to her children.
Our family would also like to give a special thanks to "nurse" Debbie Robinson, who had the courage to take a stand for compassion and humanity and voluntarily made house calls upon our request from time to time.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents; older son, Frederick Thomas Storch; infant daughter, Laura Storch (twin to Theresa); and brother, James Schrick. She is survived by her husband; children, Tonia Sunseri (Gary) CA, Lindah Leonard (Mike), CA, The-resa Goodell (Steve), WV, Vivienne Davies (Dan), Veronica Storch, William C. Storch II (Tara), all of SLC, LaVerne Davis (Ricky) MD; eight stepchildren, Robert Goodell (Susan), Gary Goodell (Mary), Bonnie Goodell, Frank Goodell Jr., John Goodell, Chuck Goodell (Roni), Rebecca Larsen (Gene); 42 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Montgomery, CA; and 6'3" baby brother, Darrell Schrick, CA.
Upon Mom's request, there will be no funeral at the chapel. However, there will be a beautiful graveside service held at the Springville City Cemetery, 450 S. 200 W, on Tuesday, Nov. 27th at 12:30 p.m.. There, family and friends may gather to pay their respects and sing some of our favorite hymns that we sang to her throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, it is Mom's sincere request that donations be made to the Book of Mormon fund. For your convenience, a donation account has been opened at Zion's First National Bank, under the name of Lois Goodell.
