Byron Orland Garritson, 77, passed away Nov. 6, 2001 in Sandy, Utah.
Byron was born June 3, 1924 in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Byron D. and Lucille Brookbank Garritson. He graduated from Pocatello High School where he was on the football team, played tuba in the school band and was on the debate team. As a teenager, he enlisted in the Navy in World War II and saw action in the Pacific including the battle for Okinawa. After the war, Byron returned to Pocatello and married Shirley Lorraine Davis on August 25, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. He played football for Idaho State University and graduated with a degree in accounting. He then entered the business world, ultimately becoming an executive of Atlas Corporation in New York City and owning his own business in Colorado until his retirement in 1989. Byron loved the outdoors and spent many enjoyable days hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons. They will fondly remember him for all of the wonderful times spent together, especially the fishing trip to Alaska.
Byron was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a great example to all in his ability to courageously endure so many years of serious health problems without complaint. He was always more concerned about caring for his loved ones. Byron was preceded in death by his beloved Shirley, his brothers Dean and Curtis and by his parents.
He is survived by sisters Myrna Gore (Vacaville, CA) and Nadine Griffin (Oregon City, OR) and by two children, Craig and a very special daughter Brenda who has been handicapped from birth. Byron was a devoted husband and father, and he cared for Brenda until his death. Byron has five grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Lloyd, and Mark, Stacy, Christine and Ryan Garritson and four great-grandchildren, Ethan Garritson and Kaylie, Whitney and Brayden Lloyd. We all love and miss you, Byron.
