Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Marilyn M. Staker, 77, of Holladay, Utah, passed away Monday, November 5, 2001, after an ongoing battle with Alzheimer's. She was a member of the LDS Church.

Marilyn was born April 24, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dora and James Chester Madsen, the second of three children. She graduated from South High School and later, the University of Utah with a B.A. in Education. She also attended Columbia University, New York. She married Clinton J. Staker August 8, 1958, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She taught elementary school for over 30 years in the Title I reading program in the Jordan School District. She had a lifetime commitment to education, and instilled that love of learning in everyone whose life she touched.

She loved exploring the world, traveling on ship and shore, seeing much of Europe. She loved knitting, and made a well known business of it. "Marilyn Staker, The Bootie Maker," warming little feet throughout Utah. She also did volunteer work for the Arthritis Foundation and the American Heart Association and the LDS Church.

Marilyn was preceded in death by parents, husband Clinton, infant daughter Laurie and sister Jeannie Madsen.

Survivors include a brother, James Madsen; son, Brian C. Staker; daughter Linda D. Staker, all Salt Lake City; granddaughter, Mollie N. Staker, Boise, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So., Sandy, where friends may call Sun.,

Nov. 11, from 6-8 p.m. and Mon. one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Good friends and family are invited to join her family for a 'wake' in her honor from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the Market Street Grill, 2985 E. Cottonwood Parkway.
