Local Art Dealer Dies <! >

Bjarne Prestmann (Dan) Olsen, a local art dealer and owner of Tivoli Gallery, died Sunday at his home in Park City. He was 62.

Mr. Olsen opened the doors of his gallery in 1968 with the purpose of exposing people to fine paintings and sculptures. He specialized in early Utah art and 19th and 20th century American art. He also owned Scandia Maintenance with his father and brother from 1967 to 1995. They had a wonderful relationship.

In 1995 he was ordained Bishop for the Parley's Park Ward in Park City and served as Bishop in the Snyderville Ward from 1999 to 2000.

Born in Aarhus, Denmark in 1939, Mr. Olsen immigrated to the United States in 1946 with his parents, Peter and Nelly Olsen, his brother John, and his sister Amy. His family eventually located to Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from West High in 1957 and three years later served a 30-month LDS mission in Denmark. In 1967 he graduated from Brigham Young University, where he met Mary Ann Griffin, his wife of 37 years.

In 1974 Mr. Olsen moved to Park City to raise his children in the beautiful mountains of Utah.

He is survived by his wife; his five children, Darrick (Vanette Flinders) Olsen, Lisa (Andrew) Olsen Sipple, Jody Lynn (Jess) Olsen Agraz, Tom (Jody Nissan) Olsen and Bill (Karen Higman) Olsen; his ten grandchildren and his sister, Amy (Severin) Olsen Jensen. Preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Nelly Olsen Olsen, and his brother, Hans Jorgen Prestmann (John) Olsen. A devoted and loving father, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at 12 noon, at the LDS Park City Stake Center (2300 Monitor Dr., Park City). A viewing will be held at the same location Wed. evening from 6-8 p.m., and Thurs. from 10:30-11:30, prior to services.
