Alfred Ross, 94, former Ohio and Florida resident, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah on Dec. 12, 2001 from the infirmities of age.

Born Feb. 21, 1907 in Germany to Arthur and Julia Ross, he emigrated to the United States as a young man and eventually settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area. A machinist by trade, he was the co-founder of the Syro Steel Company of Girard, Ohio and Centerville, Utah.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Syak Ross and his daughter Ilsa Leonhart of Park City, Utah. He was the proud grandfather of three and great-grandfather of five.

A talented artist, he was an active member of the Marquetry Society of Florida. He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his joy in life, his wonderful smile, and his caring nature.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 17th at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of the Cordia/Waterford Senior Residence, 4522 South 1300 East in Salt Lake City. Interment and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the spring in Girard, Ohio. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in his honor be given to The Nature Conservancy of Utah, 559 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84102.
