A "fly-over" bridge at Silver Creek Junction (I-80 and U.S. 40) is now open and ready for the driving public.

The bridge allows motorists to go straight from U.S. 40 onto I-80.

Utah Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Hudachko said the bridge makes the intersection safer for motorists and allows for more traffic in less time.

Construction on the bridge started in June 2000 and was supposed to be completed by August. During a preliminary inspection, it was discovered that the support walls on the ramp had a construction flaw. Hudachko said UDOT decided to tear the walls down and rebuild. The project could have been completed despite the flaws, he said, but "at some point down the road, we would have had to go in and tear it all apart."

Total cost for the project was estimated at $26.7 million, and Hudachko said UDOT has no estimate on what the delays cost.
