Dorothea Kathe Marten Whitehead passed away on December 7, 2001 at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City. Born on April 13, 1932 in Forst, Germany, Dorothea was the daughter of H. Alfred and A. Lisbeth Marten.

Dorothea emigrated from Germany in 1954 with her family and settled in Spokane, Washington. She served an LDS mission to Brazil from 1955-1957. Upon her return from her mission, she met her future husband, Duane. Duane and Dorothea were married on May 26, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had four boys: Robert, Richard, David and Steven.

As a homemaker, Dorothea provided a very loving, nurturing home life for her boys and gave a lifetime of service not only to her husband and children but also to her daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

Dorothea loved to golf and was a member of the Hidden Valley Country Club. She enjoyed and was very skilled in quilting. She loved shopping, gardening, traveling, collecting dolls and Hummel figurines and spending time at her home in St. George, Utah. She was a very loving person who dearly loved her husband, children and grandchildren and took special interest in their activities, providing support for all they did.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Harold Marten. She is survived by her husband and sweetheart, Duane, her sisters and their spouses: Ursula and Heinz Schneider (Spokane, WA), and Hannelore and Art Tallman (Spokane, WA), her children and their spouses: Robert Whitehead, Richard Whitehead, David and Tiffany Whitehead, and Steven and Laura Whitehead, and eight loving grandchildren: Torrey, Michael, Mark, Matthew, Spencer, Brandon, Brian and Parker and sister-in-law, Hazel Marten. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at 12 noon at the Salt Lake Mt. Olympus 1st Ward at 4625 S. Lanark Rd. (3315 East). Friends may call Tuesday, December 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr., and on Wednesday, December 12 from 11-11:45 prior to services at the Ward. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
