Steinaker Sr. <! >

MANILA, UTAH <! > - Elbert Joseph Steinaker Sr., our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away February 3, 2001 at the age of 101.

Elbert was son of Joseph Steinaker and Emma Searle. He was born Jan 2, 1900 in Vernal, UT. Emma Searle passed away when Elbert was a child, and soon after his father remarried Maude Beeler. Maude raised Elbert along with his new brother, Bill Steinaker. As a boy, Elbert lived on the family ranch located in the small valley that is now the Steinaker Reservoir, near Vernal, UT. From this ranch the family relocated to another ranch near Lone Tree. In the 1930's Elbert moved to Manila, UT and started his own business -- a small trading store and pool hall where beer on tap could be purchased for five cents a glass. In the early 1930's'Elbert met Hillis Helene Hill. They were married June 4, 1938.

Elbert opened a new store, the Manila Trading Company, across the street from his house. The Steinaker business would soon grow to include the Steinaker Chevron, Steinaker Ice Company, and Steinaker Motel. During this time Elbert and Hillis had four children: Elbert Joseph Jr. (Punky), Dorothy Elaine (Elaine), John Randolph (Randy), and Bobbette Aline (Bobbie). In 1979, Elbert and Hillis sold the Manila Trading Company and retired. His wife, Hillis died in 1984. Elbert continued to live in his home under the care of his children. In 1996, his great-granddaughter became his permanent caregiver. Elbert always had a good sense of humor and was happiest when friends and family were around.

Elebert is survived by his four children and their families: Punky and his wife Lenita Steinaker, Manila, UT; Elaine and her husband Ken Nash, Vernal, UT; Randy and his wife Mary, Manila, UT; and Bobbie and her husband Alfred Reich, Austin, TX; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind many friends.
