Nathan Hecht died on February 22, 2001 in Salt Lake City.

Born in Horodlo, Poland on December 5, 1910.

Married Jena Frajnd in 1938. He was a witness to World War I, Russian Revolution and World War II. He was a survivor of Holocaust.

He was in the Polish Army at the onset of World War II. Taken prisoner, he escaped from a German POW camp and made his way to Russia.

He was a master woodworker, and he had an unusual talent for creative design. For his contribution to the construction of the Grand Theater in Lodz, Poland the President of the Polish Republic awarded him gold Medal of Merit. Immigrated to the United States in 1969.

Survived by Jena, his spouse of 63 years, son Dr. Henryk Hecht, daughter-in-law Dr. Margaret Hecht and grandchildren David and Sarah of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by his daughter Edyta Awerbuch (Mexico), grandchildren Monika and Peter, and by his sister Sarah Gilboa (Israel).

Nathan Hecht was a loving husband, father and grandfather. We will all miss him and treasure our shared memories. Jena and all of his Salt Lake family took full care of Nathan during years of decline.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2001 at B'Nai Israel Cemetery, 4th Avenue and "Q" Street. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to Congregation Kol Ami, or to St Joseph Villa.
