Various Dr. Seuss celebrations early next month will highlight special children's activities in libraries along the Wasatch Front.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as "Dr. Seuss," was born on March 2, 1904. He re-invented children's literature with his clever rhymes and "nonsense" words in classic tales like "The Cat in the Hat," "Green Eggs and Ham" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." He died in 1991.

There will be five "Dr. Seuss on the Loose" events at Salt Lake County libraries.

On Thursday, March 1, the Hunter Library, 4740 W. 4100 South, will host singing, dancing and fun in a Dr. Seuss event at 4:30 p.m. The Magna Library, 8339 W. 3500 South, will host the same event on March 1 at 7 p.m., and Kearns Library, 5350 W. 4220 South, will follow with its own program at 7:30 p.m.

The Tyler Library, 8041 S. Wood, Midvale, will stage the fourth "Seuss on the Loose" on Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m., followed by the Bingham Creek Library, 4834 W. 9000 South, at 2:30 p.m.

A final event, "Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss," will be featured at the Riverton Library, 12860 S. Redwood Road, on Saturday, March 3, at 12:45 p.m. This will include a puppet show.

A "Too Many Daves" party will be held on Friday, March 2, at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Main Library, 209 E. 500 South. The theme comes from a Seuss short story of the same name, about a woman who has 23 sons named Dave.

Anyone named Dave or accompanied by a Dave is invited to the party. David James, KUTV sportscaster, will read Seuss' story at the party, and there will be refreshments.

On Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m., the Chapman Branch Library, 577 S. 900 West, will host a performance of "Horton Hatches the Egg." From 3 to 5 p.m. the same date, the Anderson-Foothill Branch, 1135 S. 2100 East, will host a "Celebrate Seuss" party, complete with cake, crafts and stories.
