A young man was killed and three other people injured in a Jeep rollover on I-15 near the Layton Hills Mall Saturday evening.

Killed was:

Matthew Fullmer, 19, West Point.

None of the four was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred just after 5 p.m.

Fullmer's family owned the Jeep, and police believe he may have been the driver, but they are not certain.

Two others, Adam Teeples, 18, South Weber, and Desiree Speth, 16, Syracuse, remained in critical condition at hospitals Saturday night.

Fullmer, Teeples and Speth were all taken by medical helicopter to Salt Lake hospitals. Fullmer died after arriving at LDS Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

The fourth person in the vehicle, Heather Hughes, 17, West Point, suffered a broken wrist and was taken by ambulance to Ogden Regional Medical Center, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Doug McCleve said.

The rollover, which may have been caused when the Jeep was cut off or a car ahead of the Jeep braked quickly, shut down southbound I-15 for three hours. Northbound traffic was also closed for a brief time as police landed the medical helicopters on the freeway, McCleve said.

Investigators are taking blood samples from all the victims to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved. McCleve said there were no signs at the scene indicating excessive speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor.

"We're trying to figure out exactly what happened," he said.

The Jeep entered the freeway less than a mile from the crash site. It was in the center lane and rolled several times before coming to rest.
