LOGAN — Six companies were honored Thursday for their efforts in "lean" manufacturing.
The Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing selection committee picked six plants — five in the United States and one in Canada — for the 13th annual awards.
Winning plants were Baxter Healthcare Corp., Mountain Home, Ark.; Benteler Automotive's Hagen Exhaust Facility, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Ford Essex Engine Plant, Windsor, Canada; Ford Ohio Assembly Plant, Avon Lake, Ohio; Freudenberg-NOK, Cleveland, Ga.; and Johnson Controls Inc., Greenfield, Ohio.
The prize is administered by Utah State University's College of Business in cooperation with several nonprofit and corporate organizations. The honor is named after Shigeo Shingo, who helped create the Toyota Production System and other related lean manufacturing processes.
