Earl LaVar Tate, 84, died peacefully April 25, 2001, next to his sweetheart of 63 years.
LaVar was born August 28, 1916 in Tooele, Utah to Joseph Earl and Bertha Lottie Shields Tate.
Married Mildred Elaine Bryan in Tooele July 10, 1937. During his lifetime, he owned, operated or was a partner in numerous successful business interests. Some of those were Tate Furniture, Tate Mortuary, Ajax Inc, Consolidated Distributing Co., Utah Salt Co., Utah Calcium Co., Bonus Int'l Corp., General Merchant Supply Co., He later served 30 years as President and 40 years as Board Chairman of Sentinel Security Life Ins Co., of Salt Lake. He was the first president of the Tooele Co. Chamber of Commerce, and was a past president of the Tooele Lions and Utah Funeral Directors Association, served with the Childrens Service Society of Utah and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In his retirement, he renewed his love for Harley Davidson motorcycles, riding every day he could following his cancer surgery.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Tooele; daughters Camille (Enoch) Eskelson, Park City and JoLene (John) Miller of Tooele; son Earl (Margie) also of Tooele; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters: Maxine T. Grimm and Norma (Clyde) Allen both of Tooele. Preceded in death by a granddaughter Jackie Ann.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 28, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Tate Mortuary 110 S. Main St. in Tooele where friends may call Friday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Burial Tooele City Cemetery.
