Gene Wilder will appear in three one-act comedies this summer at the Westport Country Playhouse.

The one-act plays are part of a show called "Don't Make Me Laugh," which will run June 27 to July 14. The plays focus on love and marriage.

Wilder, a Stamford resident, first appeared at the playhouse in the 1960s with Walter Pidgeon and Helen Hayes.

"I always wanted to come back, and now I'm doing it," the 65-year-old actor said. "It looks pretty much the same, but I think the upholstery is different."

Wilder, who was diagnosed in the fall of 1999 with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, received a stem-cell transplant and says he is cancer-free.
